i love miley. i love her sound, her rasp, her vocal range, etc. but this album just didn’t do it for me ? for starters i feel like this project was rushed for whatever reason…on top of that the marketing around it - when you drop "bass persuades" as your single and make it the title of the album i was thinking she’d have some super fun dance / pop tracks on here but it was more ballad focused. not saying everything had to be upbeat but outside of bass persuades itself …nothing else was really fun and upbeat. i thought the songs would be about having fun and being free, dancing, letting loose, etc. because that’s how it was marketed on socials but it was more love song centric. not a bad thing just an observation. though the album got a lot of backlash saying it was bland and all i do have to acknowledge the pros:
- bass persuades is fun and upbeat
- let's get married is a sweet love song
- aftermath has a good juxtaposition between the vocals and the UK garage house type beat
- REDLIGHTS has a cool discoish vibe to the track

giving it a 2.5 given the pros listed above but couldn't rate it much higher because it did feel a bit rushed to me personally, and i just don't see myself revisiting this album much.

very pivotal album for bieber. in my opinion, this is the album that took him from being only perceived as "for girls" or just a pop sensation and teen heartthrob to being seen as a more serious artist. if they're good/last long enough, every teen star has that pivotal/transitional album.

with skrillex on production and cover art by the renowned RETNA, this album was a full artistic project in every sense. consisting of 14 tracks, he has his major hits like what do you mean, sorry, love yourself, and company as well as his more introspective songs like i'll show you and life is worth living. i gave it a 4.5 bc for me there are a couple of skips but overall suchhhhh a good album and such a time capsule!

hate to be generic w the rating but honestly i have to give this a full 5. i feel like it was the last chapter to his debut look, sound, and overall “vibe” while also carefully introducing his new sound with “i can’t feel my face” - preparing us for what’s to come with his next album “starboy”. bc of that, i’d say this is prob the most pivotal album in his career/discography so far.

of course this project had its hits like “the hills”, “often” and “earned it” which is also also crazy to think about because it pushed him forth to a whole new demographic and i felt like really WAS the driving factor into his “stardom” / mainstream career but that being said, this album was a full vocal showcase, had textured sounds, and meaningful lyrics.

like everyone else, i discovered end of the beginning and really wanted to love this album but unfortunately it just didn’t hit for me :/ as a steve harrington lover and a music lover i really tried to make it work and even saw him live! and though i must say he def puts his all into his music and his art, i just think it’s a matter of time and experience. his music just isn’t that catchy to me and he doesn’t do much vocally. most of his songs are “talk-y” and though im sure that’s appreciated to some degree by music listeners, it just doesn’t do it for me. all love to djo and hope he improves and progresses over the years 🤍🎱

a classic 2000s pop/rock album. to have that many hits on a debut album is nuts shoutout to jane lol

where do i start

from iconic hits like clique & mercy to correlated brands like balmain & giuseppe zanotti this project is a time capsule. i believe virgil designed the album cover as well which gives it more swag and cultural significance 🤍🦢🕯️🕊️

i’ll admit, like many OG weeknd fans, it’s hard to move on from trilogy and to refrain from comparing all his work to that era but, hurry up tomorrow, is such a masterpiece in so many ways.

after years of the world perceiving him as “cleaned up” and on track, the weeknd makes sure the listener knows where he truly stands. with the dark lyrics of tracks like “opening night”, “given up on me”, and even one of my favorites “enjoy the show” you can’t help but be concerned. he touches on drug withdrawals and constant instances of nearing death but this transparency and vulnerability throughout the album is what makes it so good. can’t forget my favorite upbeat songs on the album as well like são paulo, open hearts, and timeless.
